Once you have opened WMM from the programs menu, click on the file menu in the top left corner and select "New Project".
You should see a window called "Movie Tasks" on the left hand side. If you don’t, go to "view" on the top menu and scroll down to "Task Pane", the window will appear. Now click on "Capture from video device".
From the window that appears, name your clip and choose where to save it (making a note of where that is). The next window will ask you to set the quality of video you will capture. We recommend you choose the "Best quality for this computer" setting. In the next window choose "Capture manually". In the final window you can control your camera. Press the play control in the window - the camera should play the tape. Use the controls to line up a clip you like and click "Start capture" just before the start of the clip! Repeat this process till you are done. Try and capture at least 6 seconds at a time but not too much, it will take ages to edit otherwise. Make sure you begin capturing 2 seconds before your start point and 2 seconds after your end point to allow you more choice in editing.

The clips appear in your browser window when you are finished capturing. If there is a break in the footage, where you pause the camera, WMM will recognize this and store it as two separate clips!
